What Bridge Do You Need To Build?

April 12, 2016

Construction projects are messy and expensive. They take longer and are more costly than initially budgeted. However, following the determination that it needs to be built, approval of design and permits, the construction begins. There are always missteps and efficiency's that could have made it a smoother project. However, when it is done, and traffic is traversing the ravine, there is a beauty and joy associated with making the trip. The expanse improves both landmasses. Commerce increases, tourism increases and certainly those commuting have an increased quality of life. Relationships are similar. Craters may have appeared between family members, ravines separate company departments or the irritable neighbor has just taken one step too far. Look close; the excavation and building tools are in your hands. No worries, soap will cleanse the clay from beneath your fingernails, the welding soot will wipe from your face and the blacktop will make your work boots unsuitable for a black tie affair. This is where your investment is most noble. No one has the same position, the same capabilities or vision to build the gleaming span. It will be messy and challenging, but worth it.

Why does it need to be built? What are some of the obstacles you anticipate? What is one positive step you can take to begin the process? How are you uniquely qualified to build this bridge? What if it doesn't turn out as you anticipate; are you good with expending the effort because the cause is worthy?

What did you want to be when you grew up?

April 12, 2016

I hardly remember what I wanted to do as a child. I remember exploring nearby hills, raising tadpoles, picking up pottery shards and racing my bike through the neighborhood. This was such a long time ago and so much living has happened in the meantime. I have been told that to help understand what you enjoy, look to your childhood for clues. These formative years were filled with so much magic and learning. Everything was new. Was the Presidency within your grasp? How about a doctor, a fireman, teacher or the next one to get moon dust on your boots? These dreams are often snuffed by a careless word or look. "Keesha, who do you think you are, you can't do that!" "Benjamin, our family doesn't do that kind of work, put away those fanciful ideas!" Give yourself permission to consider revisiting some of those "meaningless" ideas that filled the childhood dreams; elements may be closer than you think.

Do you remember these dreams? How is the dream still alive? What parent, siblings or friends would remember those days? When will you give them a call to help remember? What thinking do you need to confront to begin the journey? What is a class or a MeetUp you could attend to investigate current interest?

Engage

These INQUIRIES are here for you.

My intention is for you to ask better questions and think deeper.

Our fast paced, always on, society provides little time for reflection.

After answering the initial inquiry, dig a little deeper and follow-up with a bit more thinking:

What do I think about it?

How can I make it better/worse?

How does this influence my life and those around me?

How can I be more generous?
