How do you care for your future?

December 31, 2016

When study subjects encountered themselves through age-progressed renderings, they were more willing to change their behavior and increase their savings. The study found that someone who has engaged with their older self will forego the near-term satisfaction to benefit their older self.

Technologies ability to generate our future self will only become more lifelike. Imagine standing at the Burger King counter and your future-self pops up on the screen and asks you to reconsider the BK triple meat, bacon, and cheeseburger, for the salad. The future-self can morph into how you would look if the trend continues. The extra pounds riding in your mid-section, a few more gray hairs, and your Life Expectancy Indicator drops by a notch.

Hmm, I'll take the salad, please.

Why do you have hope for the future?

A primary indication of future outcome for performance coach, Tony Robbins, is found in answer to the question, "what do you do consistently?" He refuses to accept any other metric, and I don't have any data to refute his findings.

What has been the biggest predictor of future outcome in your life?

What is your intentional action to luck ratio as you plan for the future? If the second number is large, then it may be time to reconsider your plan. Unless it works consistently and in that case, please send me a copy of next week's winning lottery numbers.

What is the path to achievement of your dreams and goals?

39.9% of Americans listed "inadequate funds for the future" as the third most common fear in the Chapman University Study of American Fears of 2016. The top two fears were "corrupt government officials" at 60.6% and "terrorist attack" polling at 41%.

What are the categories you care and cultivate for the future? The common groups are health, retirement, kids college, and legacy; what other areas are you focused?

Are you see the future, are you driving or along for the ride?

What is the predominate emotion that colors your view of the future; love or fear?

How is anxiety revealed when considering the future?

How do you keep an eye on the future and still enjoy the present?

Engage

These INQUIRIES are here for you.

My intention is for you to ask better questions and think deeper.

Our fast paced, always on, society provides little time for reflection.

After answering the initial inquiry, dig a little deeper and follow-up with a bit more thinking:

What do I think about it?

How can I make it better/worse?

How does this influence my life and those around me?

How can I be more generous?
