Where do you seek humor?

January 3, 2017

Humor is everywhere; if you are looking. Even in the mundane.

My dog's urgency to pee is tied to the weather. When it is warm and sunny, it is a quick trip. The more miserable, the more often she needs to go outside and prance around until the deed is done.

Getting angry solves nothing, but only prevents the job getting done. Anger will only deliver me back out to the bitter weather 23.5 minutes later, for another attempt. Perhaps the dog's bladder has a Bluetooth connection to someone either developing my character or a YouTube Channel of knuckleheads in the rain.

Where do you look for humor in the day-to-day? Are there common situations or regular people you interact with, that you can count on to make you laugh? How does this steady dose of laughter affect your day?

Is laughter part of your daily diet? If not, why not? How can you remind yourself to seek humor in everyday life?

What comics or movies excel at capturing the hilarity in the mundane?

On January 1st, 2016, my wife and I attended the Piff The Magic Dragon comedy tour. We met Piff through America's Got Talent and bought the tickets the moment I learned he and his dog Mr. Piffles, were coming to town.

Piff's show lived up to my lofty expectation. His audience engagement and timing were spot on. This was our first comedy show in years and rekindled a desire to see more live shows.

How do you intentionally seek out humor? What comics or actors do you count on to deliver quality entertainment? What other sources do you explore for filling your laughter bucket? What do you appreciate about these entertainers? How do you find new talent to add to your list?

Where else can you look to find humor?

Comedian, Jonathan Winters ranked humor high on the list of needs when he said, "Well, the most terrible fear that anybody should have is not war, is not a disease, not cancer or heart problems or food poisoning - it's a man or a woman without a sense of humor."

Consider giving a shout out to your favorite funny people. The professionals are always striving to improve their craft, and specific feedback is helpful. If nothing else, pour out love on social media!

Engage

These INQUIRIES are here for you.

My intention is for you to ask better questions and think deeper.

Our fast paced, always on, society provides little time for reflection.

After answering the initial inquiry, dig a little deeper and follow-up with a bit more thinking:

What do I think about it?

How can I make it better/worse?

How does this influence my life and those around me?

How can I be more generous?
